I tried also 2.6.32 using your link to
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/nigelc/tuxonice-2.6.32.git;a=summary

 unp tuxonice-2.6.32-5f9740a.tar.gz
 cd tuxonice-2.6.32-5f9740a
 cp /boot/config-2.6.32--byme ./.config
 make oldconfig
 make deb-pkg -j20
 dpkg -i ../linux-image-2.6.32.26_2.6.32.26-1_amd64.deb
 shutdown -r now

And I have exactly the same result. Doesn't even make sense to make
photos of booting sequence - it's the same soft CPU lockup.

Also, I cannot use KMS, because nvidia isn't supporting it. It's in
nouveau since 2.6.33, from what I've found. So I still had the 80x25
text output.

Do you have somewhere an older wersion of TOI 3.0.1 which could be applied to 2.6.32 trunk ?

I could test that, and we could see if the change was introduced in
the kernel or in TOI. So far we know following:

2.6.29 : works
2.6.29+toi 3.0.1 : works
2.6.29+toi 3.2rc2 : works

2.6.32 : works
2.6.32+toi 3.2rc2 : soft cpu lockup

2.6.36 : works
2.6.36+toi 3.2rc2 : instant reboot

This PC has 32GB of RAM, two GPUs (three LCD screens), two CPUs (8 cores).
This pretty complex configuration could be the cause....

if you have any more ideas what should I try to debug this, please go on.
I can recompile kernel with some other TOI patch you could want me to try.

best regards
