Hmm. This is all moot, it seems. The nvidia kernel module doesn't show
in modinfo what version it is, so (assuming I'm reading the blacklist
instructions right) we can't use it to determine whether the module
needs unloading.

I guess, if that's the case, that we need to get 'fuzzy' and say nvidia
loading is needed prior to kernel version 2.6.26. Any other ideas?
